Jake is excited to announce the release of our first publicly available WordPress plugin.

WordPress is one of our favorite content management systems to use because of its quality and flexibility—traits that result from countless hours of development by its dedicated community of programers. After developing numerous proprietary plugins custom-tailored to meet the needs of our clients, we decided that it was time to get more actively involved with the WordPress developer community and convert one of those for public use.

About the Plugin

Our Post & Pages Admin Renamer plugin does just that—it allows users to rename “Posts” and “Pages” within the WordPress administrative interface to terms that are more suitable for their particular website. This comes in handy when they are using the Posts section for “News Items” or “Quick Tips” or “Articles.” Renaming these sections provides our clients (and now you) with a much more intuitive backend interface.

It’s a basic tool, but we find that the seemingly simple details often make a big difference for system usability in general. The sixth volume in the best-selling LogoLounge series showcases more than 2,000 designs from graphic artists worldwide. It was The Jake Group’s design for a database product called PING that was selected for inclusion in the latest volume. The logo was developed by Veronique Morrison, Senior Project Manager and graphic designer for the firm.

“I was very honored to learn that my design was chosen for publication,” said Morrison. “It’s especially rewarding to know that the acknowledgement comes from a jury of my creative peers.”

The judging for LogoLounge Volume 6 was spearheaded by an international panel of judges, including Bart Crosby of Crosby Associates, Hans Hulsbosch of Hulsbosch, Jeannie Servaas of Saffron Brand Consultants Inc., Jessica Hische of Jessica Hische, Marius Ursache of Grapefruit, Sherwin Schwartzrock of Schwartzrock Graphic Arts, Silvio Giorgi of Latinbrand, and Tessa Westermeyer of Landor.

“With over 34,000 logos entered for consideration for Volume 6, we feel very lucky to have been selected,” said Anneli Werner, President & Creative Director. “To be included in this publication speaks to the creativity and hard work our team puts into our logo concepts.”

Volume 6 will be released in February 2011 by Rockport Publications.

“Our business has grown significantly over the past several years, which is why we’ve chosen to move into bigger, more creative space,” said President and Founder, Anneli Werner. “The move was a true labor of love for the entire Jake team because we were all closely involved with the build-out and interior design of the space.”

The Jake Group now occupies the second floor of a historic Georgetown townhouse which was built in 1830. Under Ms. Werner’s direction, the offices were custom designed in an open environment to foster creativity and collaboration among the staff. The studio’s interiors were hand selected by The Jake Group staff with a distinctly contemporary style. Even the framed photographs that adorn the walls were an in-house contribution by resident photographers Joe Shymanski and Scott Henrichsen.

“We couldn’t be more pleased about the move,” said Werner. “We are very lucky to have had the opportunity to move into such beautiful space that is filled with so much history.”

Designed by the award-winning architectural firm, Robert Bell Architects, The Jake Group’s new home is replete with antiques from Washington’s past. The pine flooring throughout the studio originates from President Monroe’s Montpelier home, while the iron doors and windows were procured from the Australian Embassy. The front garden gates and fence are original 19th century wrought iron with a traditional hand-made “Charleston” entrance, and the “Greek fret” balcony railings were once part of the U.S. Treasury building.

The Jake Group is open for business 9:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. EST, Monday – Friday.
